When you compare provincial public sector spending to the size of the whole economy, Alberta has the smallest provincial government in the country. Provincial spending in Alberta made up 17.7% of the economy in 2017. Compare that to Saskatchewan at 20.3%, Ontario at 22.6% and BC at 23.1% in the same year.
